I am SOOOO excited to sit down and write to you all today!!! I feel like this is the right path, I feel new hope, and I have a tremendously good feeling about this! So here is my story about my venture out to get bioidentical hormone treatments…

After following Dr. Oz so readily and buying practically everything imaginable to promote weight loss and health, I finally think I may have the key to a more youthful, skinnier body and overall wellness in every arena, “mind, body, sex, and soul”.. DID I SAY  “sex” ? OMG I almost forgot what it is like to feel sexy again! lol

Since day one of my blog, my quest was to find out everything that I could on every subject known to man to help us to figure out why weight loss can be so hard for some and not others. I also wanted to find out WHY this aging “thing” was SO HARD. WHY WHY WHY???

After hearing from all of my blog readers, it made me that more determined then ever to finding out the secret to weight loss and healthy aging. So as a result, I sought out the very best bioidentical hormone teacher, nurse, and advocate to inspire me and help me balance my system. This is the story of my first day with my bioidentical hormone guru!

After researching in my town every possible BIOIDENTICAL HORMONE DR and OBGYN and HOMEOPATHIC DR, I began to trust my intuition and go with my gut. I ruled several people out just based on “YELP” bad reviews. Then when I came to my final choice in picking the right hormone specialist I chose one who seemed to have incredibly high ratings on health reviews!  I was so excited when she called me to state that she had an earlier appointment opening then planned and that she could see me TODAY! Yeah, hip hip horrrraaayyy!

I called my best friend who is also going through the whole menopause “thing”: weight gain, hair in weird places, hot flashes, sex drive zilch…etc… She was my hormone theraphy moral support. She was just as excited as I was!  So we drove over to our 3pm appointment with grins on our faces (and wiskers on our chins) and hope in our hearts! A skinnier, sexier “us” was on our mind…we were so tired of feeling like dried up corpses! Finally we had hope on the horizon, with a bit of skeptism, though, but we arrived with an open mind to hearing more about this new technology with Bioidentical Hormones at the forefront!

We arrived to be greeted by a warm, vivacious woman, Diane, who appeared to be in her 40’s. After a brief introduction, she told us her story (and she told us she is 51- WOW- she looks great and her skin and eyes literally GLOW!!!). She had been a nurse all of her professional career and after she personally started experiencing pre-menopausal syptoms, it drove her to seek out knowledge about Bioidentical Hormones so as to help herself and others. She went on to study the bioidentical hormone protocal along with taking a number of bioidentical hormone treatement certification classes and her focus  became learning how to balance “mind, body, and spirit” which included Bioidentical Hormone treatments. Then later she  researched the “crappolla” out of hormone replacements and sought out to find a worthy biochemical lab to work with that specialized in this particular field of medicine. Diane chose a lab out of Oregon who offers extensive testing (hormone panels, blood levels, mineral testing, the works) and specifically constructs personal prescription formulas based on  a persons individual hormonal needs. Her own story was miraclulous as she talked about how this had changed her own experience with menopause and then watched to see it change other lives drastically for the better!  She is honest and sincere in her beliefs that she will “help people balance their lives so that they can live “productivly”  to a 100’s years plus!” She agrees with Suzanne Somers and other advanced  research scientists in their beliefs that this wave of bioidentical hormones is aiding in creating the path to wellness and anti-aging that will extend our lives expidentually!

Diane tells us her own story of how miserable she was before starting bioidentical hormones. The “peri” menopause stage and the effects of this imbalance  had started to interfere with her health and every day life.  Her confidence took a dive as well has her body and sex drive.   It was funny to hear her state to us “that she was a grumpy, menopausal nurse that  wanted to tell everyone to take a hike!” She explained that she was so out of hormonal balance that it was a rollercoaster  of ups and downs and hormones shooting out like solar waves creating a titanic of emotions and irrationality.  So, Diane, like us, decided that “she was not going to give in to living a non sexual, fat,grumpy, hot and tired life with chin hair!”…lol (these are my words not hers by the

This saint of an educated woman, bioidentical scientist Diane, covered alot in the 1 1/2 hour appointment. She personally went through every line item of my current health issues, medical history, current medications, and symptoms that were bothersome. Nothing went uncovered  and she did this with great compassion. She prescribed some baseline blood work and wrote out a list of supplements that she wanted me to start. Then she told me about the miracle that would happen in just a short amount of time…

Now for the GOOD NEWS. Ok, get ready for this. Her hormone treatment plan consists of a complete saliva test that you do 4 times per day for 1 day. After that she would work with her lab to make the perfect formula with my exacting requirements for my body- making the exact personal prescription  to perfectly balance my hormones! IS there an ALIEN living inside of  me? How come I cannot lose weight?

I don’t know about you, but when I hit menopause age there suddenly seemed to be an ALIEN living inside of my stomach! Yes, out of nowhere a giant Alien lodged himself right smack in the center of my stomach and will not move! Hard and big! So what IS this??? I never seemed to have this big stomach pooch before. I’ve had babies, yes 3 of them so I know what a big gut looks like, I’ve had TWINS! But for gosh sakes, I cannot seem to get the Alien to LEAVE. I only find comfort in my 40, 50, 60 year old friends that also complain about their Alien friend and we share in comfort that we are not crazy and about to deliver a space creature. During and after menopause many women find themselves experiencing unexplained weight gain — especially around the waists and hips — despite their best attempts to diet. Often the methods of weight management that worked for them for years are suddenly ineffective. In fact, weight gain in the abdomen is one of the most common complaints of perimenopausal and post-menopausal women. Yet most women have been told that an extra 10–20 pounds is simply a rite of passage at this time of life and they should just accept their “middle-age spread.”

But you absolutely do not have to. There is no reason why you should settle for anything at this stage of your life, let alone weight gain. Sure, things may get a little more complicated during perimenopause or post-menopause. Hormonal fluctuations, many years of exposure to toxins, and your body’s natural proclivity for retaining estrogen–producing fat cells at this time can result in some extra weight. But it doesn’t mean you’re stuck with it.

Menopause Weight Gain- “YUCK”

The same metabolic set point holds true for your post-menopausal body as it did before “the change.” Menopause weight gain is just another symptom resulting from your system being out of balance. To restore balance, you need to figure out what is going on at the core of your physiology and emotions. .

Why does menopause weight gain occur so universally for women? It depends on the individual, but there are a few causes that are very common. Your fat cells and your hormones are part of a system-wide biofeedback network that orchestrates your appetite, metabolism, heat regulation, digestion, and detoxification. Any chronic disturbance in the crosstalk among systems has the potential to cause weight gain (and a host of other menopausal symptoms, like hot flashes and food cravings).

The Causes of Unexplained Weight Gain

Each day we discover more about the intricate nature of hormones and weight, but one vital link is the one between insulin, metabolism and body fat. For years, many women followed the conventional low-fat, high-carbohydrate diet, with lots of processed foods (pasta, breads, most snacks, beer and wine, etc). Over time this diet can create a condition known as insulin resistance. When you are insulin resistant your body converts every calorie it can into fat — even if you’re dieting. The result is that while you are gaining weight, your cells are actually starving!

A second basic link lies between stress and body fat. Stress hormones, like cortisol, block weight loss. This is sometimes called the “famine effect”: despite adequate food, the body interprets prolonged stress as a famine, and once again goes into hoarding mode — which it does very effectively.

Stressors can be emotional, physical, or even diet-related. Bingeing, yo-yo dieting, unaddressed food sensitivities, and severe calorie restriction are all forms of stress. Most of us are under tremendous amounts of stress — often more than we realize — and much of it is prolonged and unremitting, which can lead to chronic inflammation and a metabolic disorder called adrenal imbalance.

These mechanisms all work together — and many of us combine a high-stress life with a low-fat, high-carb diet. This creates such a powerful hormonal imbalance that weight gain is almost inevitable. What’s more, high-carb diets cause neurotransmitter imbalances that lead to food cravings. Because your body can’t readily maintain optimal blood sugar and serotonin levels, you are compelled to have snacks and caffeine to make yourself feel better. But they only exacerbate both insulin resistance and adrenal exhaustion while adding body fat. This is a vicious cycle that continues to repeat itself.

For women in peri-menopause, another weight gain issue is widely fluctuating estrogen levels, and for menopausal women, diminished levels of estrogen. As the estrogen production of your ovaries falls, your body turns to secondary production sites, including body fat, skin, and other organs. If your body is struggling to maintain its hormonal balance, body fat becomes more valuable. Often your body is balancing estrogen loss with maintaining bone mass, for which it needs additional fat cells. Of course, if you are stressed and on a low-fat diet, your body will struggle to keep all these balls in the air — AND REFUSE TO LET GO OF BODY FAT AS A PROTECTION MECHANISM. Are you Carrying Some Toxic Baggage?

Note that artificial sweeteners are not a solution, but part of the problem. They may lack caloric content, but some mimic sugar so well that the body produces insulin to metabolize them — contributing to insulin resistance. This can actually lower your blood sugar level, which is why many of these products contain caffeine to compensate for the drop in energy. In addition, adding more artificial chemicals to your body at this time can exacerbate the “toxic load” you are carrying. By midlife, most women have had years of cumulative exposure to allergens, pesticides, plastics, chemicals, heavy metals, bacteria, and other poisons and irritants. Artificial and biological debris that can’t be eliminated gets stored in our fat cells.

Over time, a woman’s system can get so gummed up by toxins that it just can’t function well — and it is often the case that the more fat cells she has, the more toxins she has stored. When a woman begins to lose weight dramatically, like on a crash diet, these toxins get released into the body in a flood and can cause miserable symptoms. The body at this point just wants to get back to homeostasis (even if what it interprets as normal isn’t healthy), and will sabotage even the best intentions to lose weight.

The truth about weight loss during menopause

So for weight loss when during or after menopause we have learned that you have to get healthy before you can lose weight and keep it off. Once you establish baseline health, your body will naturally seek and maintain its ideal weight. The first step is to follow nutritional and lifestyle guidelines like for overall baseline health in all of these areas: balance hormones, low carbohydrate diet, decrease stress by regularly getting regular exercise, and detoxing of a lifetime of stored toxins.

Menopause is no reason to accept someone else’s idea of what your limitations are — in fact the opposite is true! There is no better time than now to begin building a stronger health foundation. This is the time in your life to discover the best in yourself, including your power to finally deal with the core issues that may have hindered your earlier weight loss efforts.
